Incoming freshman have the option to opt into Freshman Experience (FE). This allows them to live in the dorms on-campus and get a meal plan. Almost all FE dorm rooms are traditional style, meaning double-occupancy rooms with a bathroom on every floor. Residence halls with large floors will have more than one bathroom per floor. There are some triple and quad rooms in certain dorms. If a freshman does not choose to opt into FE, they will be able to live in Woodruff, Fulmer, or Harris dorms or live off-campus.

East Campus vs. West Campus

East Campus is generally more social, since all Greek life is located on that side of campus, and is closer to Tech Square and Scheller College. On the East side, Glenn and Towers are the most recently renovated dorms and have laundry on every floor. Most of those two dorms are populated with in-state people and can be quite loud with little community building unless you have many friends in the dorm. Average East Campus dorms include Harrison, Field, Hanson, and Hopkins.

West Campus is generally more quiet and peaceful and is closer to the CRC. On West, Fitten/Freeman/Montag are all similarly nice dorms with decent community. Laundry for FFM is in Fitten's basement. Avoid Woodruff.

LLCs

A Living Learning Community (LLC) offer opportunities to students to explore interests while residing with other students who share similar interests. There are 5 LLCs: Explore, Global Leadership, Grand Challenges, Honors, and Impact.

Pros: In an LLC, you can form a strong community with the students in your community, because you will all be living in the same dorm, doing similar activities, and taking some common classes. It is a great way to make friends if you are coming in with no contacts at GT. There are also built-in opportunities to interact with various professors, work on multidisciplinary projects, and make connections. The mandatory LLC courses may be counted as free electives.

Cons: LLCs cost $800 per year. If you make an effort, you can do everything an LLC provides without joining one. LLCs have mandated courses that take up time in your schedule. Also, because LLCs are such tight knit communities, you may not end up interacting with many people outside of your LLC, which is very important.

Roommate Search

Roommate Search is where you can find and declare your roommate on GT's housing portal. In order to find someone on the housing portal, go to the Roommate Preferences tab and search by name and GTID. You can extend an invitation for that person to join your group, and once they accept, you will be roommates. If the person you are searching for does not appear, ensure that they are opted into FE.

Freshman desiring to room in a quad must form two groups of two and will self-assign to the same dorm room.
