First-year Meal Plans
First-year meal plans are required for everyone living in Freshman Experience dorms (basically all first years).[1]
Freshmen have three* options for plans.
Plan | Swipes | Dining Dollars | BuzzCard Funds | Price/meal | Total Price |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Everyday | 4/day | $100 | $50 | $5.50 | $2,664 |
Weekday | 4/day | $100 | $250 | $7.09 | $2664 |
Greek 100 | 100/semester | $100 | $250 | $10.38 | $1388 |
The Everyday and Weekday plans also allow 5 guest meals per semester and 5 ''White & Gold" premium events.
The Greek 100 plan is intended for students who plan to rush.
*Technically there is an athletic scholarship meal plan
Meal Swipes, Dining Dollars, and BuzzCard Funds
All universities in the University System of Georgia have these strange terms (albeit, not "Buzz" themed) due the laws on taxes in education related goods and services.
Meal Swipes are used to access the all-you-can-eat dining halls; Brittain and North Avenue. Additionally swipes can be used at select (I believe it is the majority) restaurants around campus.
Dining Dollars are used at all Dining Service Locations. Dining Dollars are bought in different increments and unused funds are refunded at the end of the spring semester.
One benefit of Dining Dollars is that they are exempt from sales tax, so you can save a few percent over cash. You can also get a 10% bonus of extra dining dollars if you buy them in bulk (this advice is more for upperclassmen who don't do meal swipe plans).[2]
BuzzCard Funds are essentially just a debit card service on your BuzzCard. These funds can used at a select list of stores.
