Registration Phases
Phase 1
Continuing students begin course registration in the semester prior. This occurs around March when registering for fall semester classes, and around October/November when registering for spring semester classes.
FASET
New students and transfer students begin course registration during their orientation.
Phase "AP"
If your FASET session happens to take place before your AP scores reach GT, students are typically able to work with their advisors to get into classes based on how they think they did on the exam. Your time ticket will open up again after the AP scores are posted (if applicable), allowing you to select those classes whose pre-requisites are satisfied by the AP credit.
Phase 2
A "last chance" registration phase that runs from about one week before classes until the Friday of the first week (this registration window overlaps with the first week of classes). The first week of classes is known as syllabus week and it's where you can see if you want to stay in the class depending on the syllabus, professor style, etc. As a result, Waitlists tend to move a lot in this phase.
Resources
DegreeWorks can be accessed by students and is the same software used by academic advisors. DegreeWorks should be used to evaluate prerequisites and classes required for your major.
GT Scheduler, a product of Jinseo Park and Bits of Good, should be used to find optimal combinations of the courses a student intends to take.
Course Critique provides historical data about a professor's GPA in a specific course. In general, a professor with a higher GPA than the course's historical average will be easier.
CIOS Survey Data provides course survey information for professors by year. The prevalence and incentives surrounding CIOS survey completion could make CIOS a more reliable resource than RateMyProfessor.
RateMyProfessor is a popular professor rating website. Its findings often track with CIOS data but both should be consulted in creating a schedule.
Oscar Registration Extension allows users to quickly fill in CRNs on the day of registration.
